Publix has recalled all lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries after the FDA upgraded the recall to Class I — its most serious risk category — over a multistate E. coli O145 outbreak. If you have any of these frozen berries in your freezer, don’t eat them. Discard them or return them to Publix for a refund.
The Official Details
Publix (Lakeland, FL) recalled all lots and sizes of the following products on July 29, 2026:
- GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries, 10-ounce, UPC 41415-06453
- GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries, 48-ounce, UPC 41415-12053
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 10-ounce, UPC 41415-06753
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 48-ounce, UPC 41415-12153
The berries were sold in Publix stores in eight states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. They were already pulled from shelves in late June 2026, but may still be in customers’ freezers.
The FDA says the products may be contaminated with E. coli O145:H28, a Shiga toxin-producing strain that can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and vomiting. In some cases — particularly in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems — it can lead to a serious complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
According to the CDC, 12 illnesses linked to this outbreak strain have been confirmed across Florida and Georgia, with 4 hospitalizations and no deaths reported, as of the most recent update. Symptom onset in reported cases ranged from May 11 to June 5, 2026.
What to do: Don’t eat the recalled berries. Throw them away or return them to Publix for a full refund. If you can’t confirm the lot because the berries were repackaged or frozen loose, discard them to be safe.
