Chipotle Chili Lime Chips are a brand-new limited-time side, launching alongside a reformulated Pollo Asado recipe in what Chipotle calls its first-ever simultaneous menu launch. Announced August 31, 2026, the chips were developed after the company tracked a viral customer hack of pairing packaged chips with its entrees.
What Chipotle Announced
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. detailed both launches on August 31, 2026, in an official newsroom release:
- Pollo Asado: a reformulated grilled adobo chicken finished with cilantro and fresh lime, available August 31 at U.S. and Canadian locations
- Chili Lime Chips: a new side “made with real ingredients, no artificial additives,” available digitally to Rewards members starting August 31, with general availability on September 4
- Ordering: the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com, and Chipotle.ca
The release states the chips were a direct response to guest behavior: “Since 2022, mentions of seasoned chips paired with Chipotle entrees have increased more than 1,500% across social platforms, while related TikTok and Instagram content has generated approximately 96 million engagements.” Fernando Machado, Chipotle’s Chief Brand Officer, said: “we saw guests hacking their Chipotle orders with packaged chips and asked ourselves: What would this look like done the Chipotle way?” Nevielle Panthaky, Senior Vice President of Culinary, added of the chicken update: “we wanted to bring more brightness and dimension to Pollo Asado while preserving its savory, smoky flavor.”
Is This Common?
Turning a viral customer hack into an official menu item is a familiar move across quick-service chains chasing social-media relevance. What makes this one notable, per Chipotle’s own release, is the “brand-first” framing: it’s the company’s first time launching a reformulated core item and a brand-new side simultaneously, rather than staggering the rollouts.
